Restraining Orders

A restraining order is a court-issued order that helps protect someone from harassment, threats, abuse, or unwanted contact.

Restraining Orders

There are four main types of restraining orders: Domestic Violence, Civil Harassment, Workplace Violence, and Elder Abuse.

  • Domestic Violence

Protects individuals from abuse or threats by someone with whom they have a close relationship, such as a spouse, former partner, family member, or someone they are dating or have dated.

  • Civil Harassment

Protects individuals from harassment, threats, stalking, violence, or unwanted contact by someone they do not have a close personal relationship with, such as a neighbor, roommate, acquaintance, or stranger.

  • Elder Abuse

Protects adults aged 65 or older, and certain dependent adults, from physical, emotional, financial, or other forms of abuse, neglect, harassment, or exploitation.

  • Workplace Violence

Protects employees from violence, threats, stalking, or harassment in the workplace. This type of restraining order is typically requested by an employer on behalf of an employee.
